Week 2 Ghana MTC
January 29, 2020
Hey all!
Hey all!
Thanks for the emails this week. Things have been crazy busy here at the MTC.
We got a new MTC Pres, President and Sister Craig (from Utah). Super nice guy, he challenged us to read the book of mormon before we leave this tuesday and I'm pretty sure I'm the only missionary who is going for it. Right now I'm around ch 14 of Alma, reading 50-70 pages a day. Between that and the 8-10 hours of classes a day I'm pretty crammed. French is going good, having a comp and district that only speaks French has been a real blessing because I'm forced to speak french all day. I'm already starting to feel comfortable teaching and sharing in French.
Our mtc pres challenged each of us district leaders to pray for our district members by name each night. I've been doing it and it's been such a special experience! At times I've received inspiration to pray for something specific for a certain elder. The Lord will bless us when we have a true desire to hear his promptings.
Here's a funny story, my comp Elder Muteb only speaks French. He was showing me something in his Book of M and I noticed something written in the back. He'd written words in french and translated them to English. He'd written phrases such as "I love you" "can't wait to see you" I miss you". When I asked about it he told me he had been texting this girl before he left and she only spoke English, so he'd been using google translate to text her. Then I looked and one of the words he'd written - 'fille' - meaning girl in French, he'd translated to 'sphincter'. That peaked my curiosity. When I asked him about it he'd said he'd written fille and it had translated it to that. So he'd texted her saying "You're a beautiful girl" but what he'd actually written was "you're a beautiful sphincter" he then said she responded by saying "WHAT???" then he said "I love you". Then he said she stopped responding! Between fits of laughter I told him what he'd really said to her, and he couldn't believe it. He said that made so much more sense now. Me and our other roommates Elder Losee and Asmah laughed for an hour about that one.
One last thing, found out me and all the other missionaries bound for Benin will actually be starting our missions in Togo, (the country to the west of Benin) that is within our mission boundaries. I'm super excited to go out and start serving and teaching others.
Hope you're all doing well, no photos this week, nothing really exciting happened so I didn't take any. Going to try and get a bunch as I travel to Togo next week.
Love
Elder Faganello
A note Nathan sent to his mom this week:
The temple was great. During the endowment it was a French session but I felt like I should take an English headset too, wasn't sure why but I did it. then about halfway through the session the guy in front of me's headset stopped working, and I felt prompted to give him mine. I listened to the rest of the session in French and I understood every word. I know that the Lord is in the details of every moment of our lives and we can receive guidance from him if we but listen to the whisperings of the spirit.
