Nathan arrived in Africa! Week 1 at the Ghana MTC.

Ghana Week 1

Hey everyone!

This is my first weekly email. Right now it's 2:02pm, wednesday the 22 of January. This is my first P-Day and I was at the temple this morning until almost 1 so I don't have much time to email anyone individually. Sorry about that, hopefully I'll have more time next week. I've got 20 minutes to get my laundry out before they'll throw it out of the washing machines, so I'mma try to crank this email out as fast as I can. I don't know if mom is gonna post this or send it to everyone but at the moment she's gotta figure it out.
ok here it goes

Flying sucks, I had like 20 hours of flights back to back and it was pretty rough. especially when the really nice flight to London from dallas had all the movies you could think of. (Star wars was really tough to resist) But I got to London in one piece. I met up with another elder in London from Guatemala. He spoke English so it was nice to talk with him, but our seats were not together so we didn't talk on the airplane.
When We arrived at the Ghana airport, no problems until I went to get my luggage. When I went to grab it, the elder I was with's bags came right away, and we could see a group of missionaries over by the exit so I told him to go with them and I'd catch up. 45 minutes later my bags came through and they'd left without me. So much for looking out for each other. I went outside with my four bags, and was immediately swarmed by taxi drivers. they turned out to be a big help though because I used their phones to call the MTC. an hour later someone came to get me. All in all i arrived at the MTC around 11:30pm, hours after the other missionaries.

I'd love to give you a blow by blow of the days since then but I'll try and just do a quick summary.

first day, my comp only speaks french, making it a bit hard to communicate but its turned out to be a blessing because my french is already 100x better. the gift of tongues is real. My district is all french and all african. I'm the only white 'native' French speaker in the whole MTC. Theres about 200 missionaries here, learning english french swahili and amharac
I got called to be our district leader, which I thought was a joke at first because I'm the only one whos not super good at french, but its gone well, learning lots in my classes
the food has been really good, I think I sent a photo of fufu, which you eat with your fingers and swallow it. really weird, not my favourite.
Our mtc pres just got released and a new one just arrived so i'll have 4 mission presidents over all.
Also while I'm writing this because I'm the only white guy who speaks french, naturally I'm the tech support for every. african. missionary. So thats fun.

Anyways I'm gonna go do laundry, might write some more after if I have time. But love you all lots! thinking of you guys! I'll try to write everyweek but we'll see. I've only got 2 more week in the MTC ( I enter the field on the 4th of feb)

My testimony continues to grow as I make studying and prayer a prioritiy, I've been very blessed so far in my studies and my language development and I appreciate all of the thoughts and prayers and are sending prayers right back your way too.

I'll try to respond to more individual emails next week, today has been nuts. (I am reading the ones sent to me haha)
